20 Sarcastic Responses to Stupid Questions
By Candy Elliott ·
We’ve all heard there’s no such thing as a stupid question.
Somebody clearly said that before group texts and customer service lines existed.
Sometimes a question deserves a thoughtful answer.
Sometimes it deserves, “No, I’m carrying an umbrella because I’m emotionally attached to it.”
Here are 20 sarcastic responses for questions that really should have spent a little more time in someone’s head before coming out.
Sarcastic Responses to Obvious Questions
- “Are you sleeping?”
“No, I close my eyes and stop moving to discourage conversation.” - “Are you eating?”
“No, I’m giving this sandwich a tour of my mouth.” - “Is it raining?”
“No, everybody outside just showered at the same time.” - “Are you leaving?”
“No, I carry my purse and car keys around the house so they feel included.” - “Did you fall?”
“No, I just wanted to see what the floor was up to.” - “Is that hot?”
“No, I screamed because it was delicious.” - “Are you awake?”
“I am now. Was that the goal?” - “Did you just get here?”
“No, I’ve been hiding behind that plant for 40 minutes.” - “Are you working?”
“No, I open 17 tabs when I want to relax.” - “Is your phone dead?”
“No, I just enjoy being unreachable. Actually, let's go with that.”
Sarcastic Responses to Questions People Should Stop Asking
- “Why are you so quiet?”
“I’m giving everyone else a chance to regret speaking.” - “Why are you still single?”
“Mostly quality control.” - “Have you gained weight?”
“Have you lost your ability to keep a thought inside your head?” - “How much did that cost?”
“Enough that I’ve decided it’s part of my personality now.” - “Are you really going to wear that?”
“No. This is the dress rehearsal.” - “When are you having kids?”
“I’ll update the mailing list when there’s news.” - “Why don't you smile more?”
“I’m waiting for something funny.” - “Are you mad?”
“No, this is my face enjoying the conversation.” - “Can I be honest with you?”
“Based on that opening, I’d actually prefer you weren’t.” - “Can I ask you a stupid question?”
“I feel like you've already started.”
What’s a Good Sarcastic Response to a Stupid Question?
The best sarcastic responses don’t need an explanation. They take the question seriously for approximately half a second and then go somewhere the person absolutely wasn’t expecting.
And, unfortunately, the perfect comeback usually arrives three hours later while you're washing your hair.
BiteDraft is for the other three hours.
Type the response you want to send, choose Sarcastic, Savage, Unbothered—or whatever level of trouble you're interested in—and see what you could say instead.
Because “I should've said…” is getting old.
